The city of Jaisalmer is small and can be covered within a couple of hours by local transport or bicycle. Or you can walk as nothing is too far, here. City buses, taxies and auto-rickshaws are the major modes of local transport within the city.It is possible to hire jeeps at the stand in Gandhi Chowk for a trip to Sam Sand Dunes or for excursions. All hotels will be able to organise hired cars for travel in and around the city. Non-metered taxis are available. Rates are fixed by Rajasthan Transport Department. Autorickshaws are available for the intrepid travellers and a trip from the airport to centrally located hotels . However, it is the norm to bargain and more often than not the fare can be significantly reduced. Bicycles are available for hire at Gandhi Chowk and within the Fort Complex .
